FireAngel

FireAngel is a UK smoke, heat and carbon monoxide alarm maker based in Coventry and trading since 1998.

FireAngel Safety Technology Limited is a British alarm maker based in Coventry, and it describes itself as an established UK brand since 19981. Its range covers the alarms most UK households need: smoke alarms, heat alarms, carbon monoxide alarms, combined units, smart interlinked systems, and sensors for water leaks, temperature and humidity. Its alarms carry the BSI Kitemark and are independently certified, and the maker describes its range as compliant for England, Wales and Scotland1.

If you have come here because a FireAngel alarm is beeping, chirping or flashing, the practical starting point is FireAngel's Customer Support Team on 0330 094 58302. The maker's customer support specialists are based in the UK and can help with product advice, installation queries and troubleshooting, by phone, email or live chat2.

What FireAngel makes for UK homes

FireAngel's range falls into a handful of clear groups, and knowing which group you need is the first step before looking at individual models. Broadly, the range covers smoke alarms, heat alarms, carbon monoxide alarms, multi-sensor alarms that combine detection methods, a smart gateway that links alarms to your phone, and environmental sensors for water, temperature and humidity.

FireAngel's range reaches beyond the alarms householders buy for themselves. The maker describes its Spec+ range as a complete Grade D1 fire and carbon monoxide alarm portfolio, developed for UK housing professionals and aligned with BS 5839-6, supporting specification across domestic, social housing, HMO, new build, private rented and assisted living properties3. That professional focus is a good sign of the brand's standing, and it also means many households may already have a FireAngel alarm on the ceiling without having chosen it themselves.

For the wider place of alarms in a household emergency plan, see our guide to home emergencies, and for how alarms fit alongside torches, first aid and water stores, our emergency kit guide.

Smoke alarms: optical sensing and sealed batteries

FireAngel's smoke alarms use optical sensor technology, which senses smoke entering the alarm's chamber. If past false alarms have tempted anyone in your household to disable an alarm, it is worth reviewing where each alarm is sited, since a heat alarm rather than a smoke alarm is the usual answer in a kitchen.

Each of these models comes with fixings supplied, which FireAngel describes as making for easy installation5. The wider smoke range includes the ST-632, ST-750, SW1, SW10, SB1, SM-SN-1 and FP2620W2-R, and the interlinked FA8620BW.

Which? independently tested the FireAngel FP1820W2-R, noting a 10-year battery lifetime and a five-year warranty, and that it can be linked with other related FireAngel alarms8. The same model was described as standalone with a sealed battery in Which?'s choosing guide9.

Heat alarms: for kitchens and garages

Heat alarms are the right choice in rooms where a smoke alarm would false-trigger from everyday cooking: kitchens, garages and boiler rooms. FireAngel's heat alarms use thermistor sensor technology, which responds to a rise in temperature rather than to smoke itself.

The battery powered FA6720-R is a battery powered heat alarm with a thermistor sensor, fixings supplied and a 5 year warranty10. The HW10 is a 230V mains powered heat alarm, also using thermistor technology and carrying a 5 year warranty11, which suits households wanting an alarm wired into the mains rather than battery dependent. The heat range also includes the HW1 and HM-SN-1.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service advises householders choosing any fire safety equipment to look for certification marks, including the Kitemark of British Approvals for Fire Equipment on extinguishers12. FireAngel's alarms carry the BSI Kitemark and are independently certified1, and its FA3313 carbon monoxide alarm is independently tested by BSI under certificate number KM 55150413.

Carbon monoxide alarms: replaceable battery or sealed for life

Carbon monoxide has no smell and no taste, and an alarm is the only reliable warning a household has. CO-Aware, the carbon monoxide safety charity, describes FireAngel as making long lasting CO alarms for the UK market, powered either by a replaceable battery or a sealed for life power pack14. Some models can run diagnostic reports to prove whether an alarm was activated, at what level and when, and digital models show low level CO readings14.

The two power options suit different households:

  • Sealed for life: Which? notes that sealed battery alarms have a battery that will last as long as the alarm, so the battery never needs replacing9. FireAngel models in this group include the FA3322X4, which the maker lists among its products with sealed for life batteries15, and the FA3820X4, a carbon monoxide alarm with a 10 year life-time battery16.
  • Replaceable battery: Which? advises that alarms using replaceable batteries need their batteries replaced every 12 months17. The FA6813 uses two AA batteries, with a large hush/test button and indicators showing whether CO has been detected in the previous 30 days16. The replaceable-battery range also includes the FA6812, FA6829S, CW1 and W2-CO-10X.

Which? has tested FireAngel CO alarms independently: the FA3820 was most recently tested in May 202318, and the FA3313 was noted as able to be wall-mounted or freestanding, with a 10-year battery life and five-year warranty19. The SCB10-R combination CO and smoke alarm was tested for CO as a standalone, sealed battery unit with a 10-year battery life, a large hush/test button and a three-year warranty8.

For the wider picture on CO risks at home, see our home emergencies and gas and heating failures guides.

Multi-sensor and Spec+ alarms: one unit, two or three risks

FireAngel's Multi-Sensor alarms use both smoke and heat sensors, which the maker says provides quicker and more reliable fire detection without the need for separate smoke and heat alarms2. For households that find the standard one-alarm-per-risk arrangement confusing, a multi-sensor unit simplifies both buying and fitting.

The Spec+ range builds on this. The SP500 range is a smoke alarm, the SP510 a heat alarm, and the SP530 a Multi-Sensor Heat and CO Alarm5. The range includes the SP520 smoke and heat alarm, the SP530 heat and CO alarm and the SP540 smoke, heat and CO alarm. FireAngel says its Specification range and FireAngel Mains 9V range of alarms are suitable for all domestic properties, including rental and new build properties2, which matters if you are a landlord or buying for a new build.

The FA3322 CO alarm adds environmental monitoring, with temperature and humidity warning for prolonged dangerous environmental conditions15, and uses advanced electrochemical sensor technology, as does the FA331313.

FireAngel One: the smart gateway

The FA8080BW-R One Smart BLE Gateway links FireAngel alarms to your household. The maker states the Gateway is compatible with mainstream smart home platforms, including Google, Apple and Amazon20. The FireAngel One system is certified by SGS, a UKAS-accredited (ISO/IEC 17065) third-party certification body, and is CE compliant20.

The gateway's manual states that, provided it is returned with proof of purchase date, FireAngel Safety Technology Limited warrants a replacement unit free of charge during the 5 year period, at FireAngel's discretion21. The gateway's interlinked accessories include the FP1000W2-R, which FireAngel states has a range of 35m, over 200m in clear air, with LED indicators for power supply, network connection and error message, and a 2 year warranty22.

A smart alarm system is most useful for households that want a warning on their phone when an alarm sounds and they are out, or when a relative's alarm sounds and they live elsewhere. That overlaps with the planning in our extra help guide for older or medically dependent household members, and with staying informed in an emergency.

Water leak, temperature and humidity sensors

A water leak sensor placed on the floor beside a washing machine

FireAngel also makes sensors for the slow emergencies: leaks, freezing pipes and damp. The FireAngel water leak sensor carries an IP65 rating, which the maker says makes it dust-tight and resistant to water spray, suitable for kitchens, bathrooms, utility rooms and other moisture-prone areas2. When water is detected, the sensor sounds a loud alarm and flashes a red LED light2. It comes supplied with two AA alkaline batteries, and one set typically lasts up to a year under normal conditions2. When the batteries run low, the sensor emits a low-battery chirp approximately every 30 seconds and a red LED indicator flashes2.

The FA7312 temperature and humidity sensor is designed to detect temperatures between -9°C and 60°C and humidity of 10% to 90% RH23. FireAngel states it is suitable for domestic premises including caravan holiday homes, caravans, motor caravans and boats23. The Home Environment Gateway includes an in-built humidity sensor with an accuracy of ±3% RH2. A sensor that warns of freezing temperatures gives a household the chance to protect pipes before they burst, which is the kind of preparation covered in our storms and snow and flooding guides.

Guarantee: what is covered and for how long

FireAngel says its warranty period is usually between 3 and 5 years, and advises you to check your alarm's packaging and manual for up-to-date information20. CO-Aware notes the option of a 7 year life guarantee on some models14. Which? lists a three-year warranty on the SCB10-R combination alarm8.

Two conditions recur across FireAngel's warranty terms. First, proof of purchase is required: the FA8080BW-R manual states the warranty applies provided the unit is returned with proof of purchase date21. Second, the W2-SVP manual states the warranty applies to the original retail purchaser from the date of original retail purchase, is not transferable, and that FireAngel reserves the right to offer an alternative, similar product if the original model is no longer available or in stock24. So keep the receipt with your household documents, and if you buy a home with FireAngel alarms already fitted, assume the guarantee may not transfer to you.

BSI Kitemark and independent certification

FireAngel's alarms carry the BSI Kitemark and are independently certified1. The FA3313 is independently tested by BSI under certificate number KM 55150413. The FireAngel One system is certified by SGS, a UKAS-accredited (ISO/IEC 17065) third-party certification body, and is CE compliant20. The FP1000W2-R has been independently tested to EN 300 220-2, EN 301 489-3 and EN 301 489-122.

For the buyer, the practical meaning is simple: an independent body has tested the alarm against a published standard, rather than the maker alone vouching for it. Which? also independently tests CO alarms and publishes the results, and its testing covers how quickly alarms respond at different CO levels19.

Where the range is compliant: England, Wales and Scotland

FireAngel describes its range as compliant for England, Wales and Scotland1. The maker adds that its Specification range and FireAngel Mains 9V range of alarms are suitable for all domestic properties, including rental and new build properties2.

The underlying law differs across the UK. The government's response document on the Fire Safety Act 2021 states that the Act applies to England and Wales, and that separate fire safety legislation is in place in Scotland and Northern Ireland25. So the same FireAngel alarm may be meeting different legal requirements depending on where you live, and the maker's compliance claim is specific to the three nations it names.

Northern Ireland is the gap. FireAngel does not include Northern Ireland in its compliant range1, and households there should check what their own legislation requires before buying. The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service offers a free in person Home Fire Safety Check, contactable on 028 9266 422126. CO-Aware notes that some CO alarm ranges, such as Firehawk's, are stated to meet the requirements of the regulations in Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland as well as Part J of the Building Regulations14, so Northern Ireland households have certified options, but FireAngel's own compliance claim does not extend there.

Getting help with advice, installation and faults

FireAngel runs a UK support operation, and there are several routes depending on what you need.

  • General customer support: call 0330 094 58302. The same number appears in product manuals as Technical Support24 and as the contact for specification and privacy enquiries21.
  • Email: technicalsupport@fireangeltech.com for UK technical support21.
  • Online: www.fireangeltech.com/support23.
  • Manuals in other formats: FireAngel states its user manuals are also available in large text and other formats, by emailing technicalsupport@fireangeltech.com or calling 0330 094 583021.

If your alarm was fitted by a fire and rescue service, go back through that route first. Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service says both its suppliers, FireAngel and FireHawk, will post out a replacement alarm to you if the issue cannot be resolved with you over the phone, and gives FireAngel's freephone 0800 141 2561 for alarms still covered by guarantee27. Lincolnshire County Council likewise directs residents with FireAngel alarms installed by the council to call 0800 141 2561 or visit www.fireangel.co.uk for advice28.

Some faults are diagnosable from the alarm itself. The W2-SVP manual states that a unit fault shows as an amber LED flashing rapidly, and advises contacting Technical Support24. The FP1000W2-R has LED indicators for power supply, network connection and error message22. Installation is designed to be straightforward: FireAngel's datasheets state fixings are supplied with the FA6611, FA6615 and FA66205.

If a fault leaves you without a working alarm while you wait for a replacement, treat the gap seriously: a home without a working smoke alarm is a home without early warning. Our home emergencies guide covers what to check and how to reduce risk in the meantime.

Where to buy FireAngel alarms in the UK

FireAngel alarms are sold through the maker's own site, www.fireangel.co.uk, and CO-Aware notes they can be bought at leading retailers such as B&Q, Tesco, Robert Dyas, Mothercare or Boots14. The maker's sales contact is 02476 323232 and sales@fireangel.co.uk14.

When buying, check the warranty period for the specific model on its packaging and manual: FireAngel says its warranty period is usually between 3 and 5 years, and advises checking these for up-to-date information20. Keep the receipt: FireAngel's warranty terms require proof of purchase21.
