Who we are
Safe. Prepared. publishes this site and is responsible for the information described here. You can reach us through the contact page.
What we collect
- Visit statistics. Two services count visits: Cloudflare Web Analytics and Umami. They record the pages viewed, the referring site, the country, the device type and the browser type. None of them sets cookies, tracks people across other sites or identifies anyone. Umami briefly uses the visitor's IP address to work out an approximate location and a visitor count, and does not keep the IP address in its statistics.
- Security logs. The hosting provider, Cloudflare, briefly records technical details such as IP addresses, to keep the site running and protect it from attacks.
- Messages sent to us. The contact form collects your name, email address and message. Cloudflare Turnstile protects the form from automated spam, checking that a person is sending it without tracking cookies. Messages are stored securely and forwarded by email to the people who run the site. The spam check may also process the sender's IP address.
Cookies
The site sets none. Nothing is stored on your device to track you, so there is no cookie banner.
Why the information is used and the lawful basis
| The information | The purpose | The lawful basis |
|---|---|---|
| Visit statistics | To learn which pages help people and which need work | Legitimate interests |
| Security logs | To keep the site available and safe | Legitimate interests |
| Contact form messages | To read and answer them | Legitimate interests, or steps the sender asked us to take |
How long it is kept
Visit statistics are kept only in summary form. Security logs are kept for a short period, by Cloudflare. Contact messages are kept up to 12 months after our last reply, then deleted, unless we need them longer to correct a page or handle a complaint.
Sharing
We never sell the information or share it for marketing. Cloudflare processes it on our behalf to host and protect the site, and Umami processes visit statistics on our behalf. Some processing may happen outside the UK, under safeguards recognised by UK data protection law.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of the information we hold, and ask for it to be corrected, deleted or no longer used. Contact us through the contact page. We reply within one month. Complaints can go to the Information Commissioner's Office, ico.org.uk.
Changes
If our use of information changes, we update this notice and the date at its top.
