Loss of gas supply affects around 320 properties in Bridlington YO16 4 area

Northern Gas Networks (NGN), described in its notice as the gas distributor for the North of England, was on site in the YO16 4 area of Bridlington on Thursday 11 July 2024 following a loss of gas supply to approximately 320 properties1. The company said it was in the process of isolating the gas supply for all affected customers and updating them on next steps while it worked to resolve the issue1.

The properties affected are listed by street and postcode:

Chris Nevison, Operations Manager at NGN, said teams had been brought in locally and from other areas of the network to restore gas as quickly as possible1:

"We are now in the process of isolating the gas supply for all affected customers, and updating them on next steps while we work to resolve the issue. All customers who are signed up to the Priority Services Register will be contacted by our Customer Care team and offered additional support while they are without gas."

NGN said customers who need additional help can contact its Customer Care Team on 0800 040 7766 or by email1. It also said anyone who smells gas or suspects carbon monoxide should call the National Gas Emergency Service immediately on 0800 111 999, a line it says operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week1.

The notice does not state the cause of the loss of supply, how long restoration is expected to take, or how many households are on the Priority Services Register in the affected streets. Those details have not been reported1.

Why it matters for households

About 320 properties in ten streets off the YO16 4 postcode area are without mains gas from 11 July 2024, which affects cooking, hot water and, for many homes, central heating1. NGN says it is isolating supplies for all affected customers, so the outage applies across the listed streets rather than to isolated properties1. Households signed up to the Priority Services Register are to be contacted by NGN's Customer Care team and offered additional support while they are without gas1. The company directs anyone needing extra help to its Customer Care Team on 0800 040 77661. For general background on coping with an interruption, see Gas and Heating Failures: A Household Guide and What to Do When the Mains Supply to Your Home Goes Off. Households unsure which company distributes gas to their area can check Which Network Operator Covers Your Home, and support arrangements during a prolonged outage are set out in Help From Networks During a Long Outage.

What happens next

NGN says it is isolating supplies and updating customers on next steps while it works to resolve the issue, with teams brought in from locally and from other areas of its network1. No date for full restoration has been given1. Once gas is restored, the process for getting appliances safely back on is covered in Getting Your Supply Back On After an Outage.
