The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) published a product recall on 25 March 2024 for MSR, Trail Lite and Reactor camping cooking pots, which it says present a risk of burns1. The pots were sold between 2008 and February 2024, individually and as part of sets1.
The hazard is set out in the notice: the pot handle of some cook pots can come loose or disengage, spilling the contents, including hot liquids, onto the user1. The notice states that the affected products do not meet the requirements of the General Product Safety Regulations 2005, and that the product has been recalled from end users1.
The recall covers nine products, identified by barcode and SKU1:
| Product | Barcode | SKU |
|---|---|---|
| Reactor 1.0 L Stove System | 40818068984 | 06898 |
| Reactor 1.7 L Stove System | 40818112052 | 11205 |

The notice carries an update dated 24 October: as a precautionary measure, the company has decided to replace the handles of all pots without proof of purchase1. It directs owners to the MSR recall site for further information1.
"Affected consumers should immediately stop using the recalled camping cooking pots and contact Cascade Designs for a free replacement pot handle/lifter that is compatible with the affected pot."
Why it matters for households
The recall covers pots and stove sets sold from 2008 to February 2024, so equipment bought long ago and still in use for camping, festivals or cooking in tents and caravans may be affected. The risk arises when a handle loosens or detaches while a pot holds hot food or liquid. The OPSS advice is that affected consumers stop using the pots immediately and contact Cascade Designs for a free replacement pot handle or lifter compatible with the affected pot, and the company has said it will replace handles on all pots without proof of purchase1. The notice does not give a closing date for the replacement arrangement. Households keeping camping cooking equipment for emergency use can check the product name, barcode and SKU against the table above; the OPSS notice does not state how many units are affected in the UK, and no UK injury figures have been reported1.
What happens next
The recall remains in force and the replacement handle arrangement, as set out in the 24 October update, applies to all pots without proof of purchase1. The OPSS notice gives no end date for either. Owners are directed to the MSR recall page for the replacement process1. Further detail on cooking equipment for tents and caravans is in the guide to keeping warm and cooking in tents and caravans, part of the heating and cooking section.
