Dunelm electric blanket cables recalled over fire risk

The Office for Product Safety and Standards published a product safety report on 20 July 2026 for Dunelm Warm and Cosy electric blanket cables, which it says present a risk of fire1. The report, notification number 2607-0039, was notified by Local Authority Trading Standards and covers cables supplied with single, double and king size blankets with inline control units1.

The report states that the copper wire within the cable can fray, which "may cause localised overheating and fire during normal use", and that the product does not meet the requirements of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 20161. Dunelm has initiated a cable replacement programme, and the report says only blankets from the 2022 and 2023 batches are currently in scope of this corrective action1. The product is listed under the furniture category as blankets and throws (powered), with China given as the country of origin1.

The affected products are listed with barcodes and article numbers:

"If your product has the barcode and batch numbers specified, stop using it immediately and contact Dunelm on 0333 234 0870 to claim a free replacement cable. Alternatively, return the blanket and cable to your nearest Dunelm for a full refund."

The report also links to a Dunelm product safety recalls page for further information1. The risk level is listed as not provided1.

Why it matters for households

The report covers blankets bought in the 2022 and 2023 batches, in single, double and king sizes, and says only those batches are currently in scope1. Households can check the barcode and article number on the label against the table above; the safety office's guide to checking whether an electrical product has been recalled sets out how recall notices and batch details are presented. The safety office advises anyone whose product has the specified barcode and batch numbers to stop using it immediately and either contact Dunelm on 0333 234 0870 for a free replacement cable or return the blanket and cable to the nearest Dunelm for a full refund1. The site's guide to electric blankets: safe use, checks and when to replace covers cable and control unit checks, and the electric blanket or heated throw page compares the two for households choosing heating for a bed.

What happens next

Dunelm's cable replacement programme is under way for the affected batches1. No end date for the programme and no figure for the number of blankets affected have been reported1.
