Met Office launches July to December 2025 training prospectus for community responders

The Met Office has launched a training prospectus for community responders and the voluntary sector covering July to December 2025, according to an account by its Civil Contingencies Advisor for London and Southeast England, Mark Rogers, published by Communities Prepared on 17 July 20251. The Met Office Civil Contingency Advisors are running three courses in the new prospectus1.

Rogers, who runs the advisor team's online training offering for emergency and community responders, wrote that the Met Office "have just launched their July to December 2025 prospectus"1. The training runs on selected dates throughout the year, and the Met Office gives training.cca@metoffice.gov.uk as the contact for further information1. No course dates, locations, fees or booking arrangements beyond that email address have been reported1.

The three courses are set out as follows1:

CourseContent described
Climate changeThe science around climate change, changes and impacts already being faced, latest projections, and mitigation and adaptation ideas; includes information on the Local Authority Climate Service
Winter weather hazardsThe different types of winter weather, how they develop and their potential impacts
Met Office Information, Products and ServicesInformation to help people prepare for severe weather ahead of its arrival, including the National Severe Weather Warning Service, flooding information and the Met Office App and website
"The Met Office is the UK's National Met Service, and one of their core aims is to help people to make decisions to stay safe and thrive"
Mark Rogers, Met Office Civil Contingencies Advisor, writing for Communities Prepared1

Why it matters for households

The courses are aimed at community responders and the voluntary sector rather than the general public, so the direct effect on most households is indirect: the people who run local groups and support neighbours during severe weather are the audience1. The content described covers the warnings and information households are pointed to in an emergency, including the National Severe Weather Warning Service, flooding information and the Met Office App and website1. Rogers describes the climate change course as including the Local Authority Climate Service, which he calls a site where people can find out more about the changes likely in their local area1. The Met Office also maintains a Community Resilience Hub and a downloadable Community Resilience leaflet for sharing locally, which Rogers describes as providing essential information for communities to stay safe, prepared and proactive during severe weather1. Households wanting to know what community responders do can read our guide to Community First Responders, and groups planning their own preparations can use our page on severe weather tasks for community groups. More general background is in our community hub and UK preparedness hub.
