OEX Folding Gas Stoves recalled over gas hose degradation risk

The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) published a product recall on 6 June 2024 for two styles of OEX branded folding gas stoves with hose, the Folding Novo Stove and the Folding Savo Stove, sold since January 20231. The stoves have been recalled from end users and withdrawn from the market1.

The OPSS states that the gas hose may degrade over time, leading to a gas leak and possible hose ignition, and that the affected products do not meet the requirements of Regulation 2016/4261. The affected production numbers or codes are 71308 - 301, 71308 - 212 and 16575986 / 636246, and the OPSS says the code is located on the product swing label, or on the base of the box close to the barcode1. The country of origin is given as China, and the recall was notified by Local Authority Trading Standards under PSD number 2405-00601.

The OPSS says affected stoves can be returned to any of the following stores: Go Outdoors, Go Outdoors Express, Blacks, Millets, Fishing Republic and Ultimate Outdoors1.

A separate recall published the same day covers Vango Folding Gas Stoves, with the same stated hazard of a gas hose that may degrade over time, leading to a gas leak and possible hose ignition2. The Vango recall covers the Folding Gas Stove ACXSTOVE DAKZ36 and the Folding Stove with Windshield and Piezo ACXSTOVE DEWZ36, sold since September 2022, with production numbers 19406/06/2022, 19775/10/2022, 19785/12/2022 and 19884/04/2023 located on the underside of the stove2. The OPSS gives that recall a risk level of Medium and records it under PSD number 2405-00542. The Vango notice states that owners must stop using affected stoves immediately and return them to the place of purchase, and that affected consumers are advised to contact AMG group on 08447 707058 or by emailing stoves@amg-group.co.uk; alternatively, affected stoves can be returned to the same list of stores2. The OEX notice does not give a risk level1.

Why it matters for households

The recalls cover camping-style folding gas stoves with a hose, sold in the UK since January 2023 in the OEX case and since September 2022 in the Vango case1. The OPSS identifies a risk of fire, explosion and burns from a gas hose that may degrade over time, leading to a gas leak and possible hose ignition, and states that owners must stop using affected stoves immediately1. Households that hold either model can check the production number against the lists above, using the locations the OPSS gives for each: the swing label or the base of the box near the barcode for OEX, and the underside of the stove for Vango1. The OPSS advises returning affected stoves to the stores named in each notice, and for Vango stoves also gives the AMG group phone number and email address for affected consumers1. General guidance on gas leaks and fire risks in the home is set out in the guide to home emergencies, and equipment for cooking is covered in the heating and cooking section.
