The hazard is described as a defect in the sensor assembly which, in some circumstances, can damage the PCB, leading to the unit overheating and igniting, causing a fire1. The notice states that the product does not meet the requirements of the General Product Safety Regulations 20051. The risk level for this recall is listed as not provided1.

The Office for Product Safety and Standards states:

The notice also gives contact details for further information: Ebac Limited can be reached on 0345 805 0000 and at customer.services@ebac.com1.

Why it matters for households

Households that own one of the three named Ebac models, in one of the six listed batch numbers, are affected from the date of the recall on 21 April 20261. The Office for Product Safety and Standards advises owners to stop using the product immediately and to contact the distributor they bought it from for a refund1. The notice does not state how many units are affected, and no injuries or fires linked to the recall have been reported in it1.

Dehumidifiers of this kind are used indoors to reduce humidity, so an affected unit may be in use in a home, including in rooms where people sleep or where other electrical equipment is kept1. The recall notice does not give separate guidance for households that have already noticed overheating, smoke or damage to a unit; owners are directed to the recall notice and to Ebac Limited for further information1.

Households that are unsure whether a dehumidifier they own is covered can check the model and batch details against the recall notice, and general guidance on checking whether an electrical product has been recalled is available in the guide on how to check if an electrical product has been recalled. The home emergencies hub covers wider household planning for electrical and other home hazards.

What happens next

The recall notice does not set out a timetable for refunds or for any repair or replacement programme, and no further steps have been reported beyond the instruction to stop using the product and contact the distributor for a refund1. Owners seeking further information are directed to Ebac Limited on 0345 805 0000 or at customer.services@ebac.com1.
