Recall issued for Morco Primo (MP) and EUP gas water heaters over fire risk

Morco has initiated a recall of four models of open-flued gas water heaters supplied between 2018 and 2023, according to a product recall notice published by the Office for Product Safety and Standards on 26 March 2024 and updated on 15 January 20251. The notice states that the recall supersedes a modification programme previously in place, and that appliances modified under that programme are also in scope1.

The affected appliances are the Primo 6 (MP6), Primo 11 (MP11), EUP6 and EUP11, described as white domestic gas water heaters of Italian origin1. The notice says they may be installed in mobile homes, caravans and domestic settings1. The stated hazard is a risk of gas leaking which, if ignited, may set fire to flammable components on the front of the heater, and may cause burns, explosions and injuries1. The products are not in conformity with the requirements of Regulation 2016/426, the notice says1. The case number is 2310-0010, and the recall was notified by Local Authority Trading Standards1.

"Owners of gas water heaters installed (including those which have previously received a safety upgrade) should contact Morco immediately to discuss next steps."

The notice adds that owners should not attempt to check or test the appliance themselves1. Morco Products Ltd can be contacted on 01482 325456 or at gaswaterheaters@morcoproducts.co.uk, and a form to request a refund or a replacement is available through the company's website1. Anyone who smells gas, including owners and consumers concerned that their product poses a risk, should contact the National Gas emergency helpline on 0800 111 999 in England, Wales and Scotland, and 0800 002 001 in Northern Ireland, the notice says1.

Why it matters for households

The recall covers heaters installed in homes, mobile homes and caravans, so households with one of these models are affected wherever the appliance was fitted1. The notice states that appliances which previously received a safety upgrade under the modification programme are also covered, so a household that has already had work done on its heater is not excluded1. The change from a modification programme to a full recall means affected units are being recalled from end users rather than modified in place1. The notice advises owners not to check or test the appliance themselves and to contact Morco immediately to discuss next steps, and directs anyone who smells gas to the National Gas emergency helpline1. General guidance on gas leaks, fire and carbon monoxide in the home is set out in the site's home emergencies guide.

What happens next

The notice was first published on 26 March 2024 and updated on 15 January 2025 to reflect that the recall supersedes the modification programme1. No closing date for the recall has been reported1. Households can request a refund or replacement through the form linked from the notice, and the notice gives Morco's telephone number and email address for direct contact1.
