Radio Teleswitch Service begins phased switch-off

The Radio Teleswitch Service (RTS) will start to phase out from 30 June 2025 as it reaches the end of its operational life, Wiltshire & Swindon Prepared has said. The service, also known as the Dynamic Teleswitch Service (DTS), is being withdrawn in stages rather than all at once1.

The organisation said there will not be a mass switch-off of the RTS national signal on 30 June 2025. Instead, a phase-out of RTS functionality will begin for small groups of meters at a time, and customers will be informed directly1.

The switch-off affects energy customers who have an RTS meter in their home. For those households, it may mean their heating and hot water supply stops functioning as normal1.

Why it matters for households

The change affects only households with an RTS meter, and it does not happen for everyone on one day. Because the phase-out runs in small groups of meters, the practical effect for a given household depends on when its own meter is reached, and the organisation says customers will be told directly1. For an affected household, the stated consequence is that heating and hot water may stop functioning as normal1. No further timetable for the groups of meters, and no list of areas, has been reported.

What happens next

The phase-out begins on 30 June 2025 and continues in stages, with customers informed directly as their meters are reached1. No end date for the process has been reported.
