OnBuy listings for affected baby sleeping bags removed

The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) published a product safety report on 26 October 2026 covering three baby sleeping bags sold via the online marketplace OnBuy. The corrective action recorded in the report is that the listing has been removed by OnBuy1.

The report states that the products present a risk of asphyxiation and overheating. It says the sleeping bags do not incorporate arm openings and/or incorporate a hood, which may allow an infant to slip down inside the product during use, and that excess fabric may then cover the infant's nose and mouth, obstructing breathing and leading to asphyxiation. Infants are described as particularly vulnerable as they may be unable to remove the obstruction themselves1. The report says the products do not meet the requirements of the General Product Safety Regulations 2005, and that they were marketed as suitable for use from birth to 12 months. The country of origin is listed as unknown1.

The three items are identified in the report by their OnBuy listing names and product codes1:

Why it matters for households

The report concerns households that bought any of the three sleeping bags through OnBuy. OPSS advises owners to stop using the product for unsupervised sleep immediately and to contact the seller they purchased from to request a refund or replacement1. The listing has been removed by the marketplace, so the items are no longer offered there1.

The report also refers readers to a separate OPSS Product Safety Alert for Baby Sleeping Bags, which it says highlights the risk they may pose to babies, and to NHS safe sleep advice for babies1. The content of those pages is not set out in the report.

What happens next

The report gives no further dated steps beyond the removal of the listing and the advice to owners. Households wanting to follow product safety reports and recalls as they are published can use the guide to staying informed.
