MSR to replace handles of all recalled pots without proof of purchase

The Office for Product Safety and Standards published a recall on 25 March 2024 covering MSR, Trail Lite and Reactor camping cooking pots sold between 2008 and February 2024, and updated it on 24 October 2024 to say the company will replace handles on all affected pots without proof of purchase1.

The hazard is that the pot handle of some cook pots can come loose or disengage, spilling the contents, including hot liquids, onto the user1. The notice states that the affected products do not meet the requirements of the General Product Safety Regulations 2005, and that the product has been recalled from end users1.

The affected products are sold individually and as part of sets, and are listed by name, barcode and SKU1:

The 24 October update sets out the company's position:

"Update 24/10 - As a precautionary measure, the company has decided to replace the handles of all pots without proof of purchase."

The same notice says affected consumers should immediately stop using the recalled camping cooking pots and contact Cascade Designs for a free replacement pot handle or lifter compatible with the affected pot1. It also links to an MSR recall page for further information1. The notice does not give a closing date for the replacement scheme, and no end date has been reported1.

Why it matters for households

The recall covers pots and stove sets sold from 2008 to February 2024, so a wide range of camping households in the UK may hold one1. The risk arises during use, when a loose or disengaging handle can spill hot contents on the user1. The change announced on 24 October means that owners who no longer have a receipt or other proof of purchase are covered by the handle replacement, according to the notice1. The official notice directs affected consumers to stop using the pots immediately and to contact Cascade Designs for a free replacement handle or lifter compatible with their pot1. The notice does not describe any other remedy, such as a refund or replacement pot, beyond the handle or lifter1.

What happens next

The recall remains in place and the replacement arrangement for pots without proof of purchase was announced on 24 October 20241. Owners can check their product against the list of names, barcodes and SKUs above, and the notice points to the MSR recall page and to Cascade Designs for further information and replacement handles1.
