MOMA Foods recalls porridge pots and sachets over possible mouse contamination

Food Standards Scotland states the risk plainly: "These products may contain mouse contamination making them unsafe to eat"1. Its advice to consumers is: "If you have bought the above products, do not eat them. Instead, return them to where you bought them from for a full refund"1. The agency says the lot or batch code "is found on the base of the porridge pots and back of the sachets"1.

MOMA Foods is carrying out the recall1. According to the alert, "Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling these products and on their website. These notices explain to customers why the products are being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the products"1. A point of sale notice is attached to the Food Standards Scotland alert1.

Why it matters for households

The recall applies to households in Scotland that have bought any of the listed MOMA porridge pots or sachets within the stated pack sizes, best before dates and batch codes1. Food Standards Scotland says these products may be unsafe to eat and advises people not to eat them, and to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund1. Checking whether a product is affected means reading the batch code on the base of a pot or the back of a sachet and comparing it with the lists above1. The agency's food safety guidance sets out how food alerts and recalls work.

What happens next
